Cardiac First Response (CFR) Community
Introduction
This comprehensive, practically-based half-day course was developed by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council [PHECC] as a national standard to ensure that those who suffer cardiac arrest in the community are given the best possible chance of survival. The course is suited to those who may be required to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, choking, stroke or unconsciousness in the workplace, at a sports facility, in the home or in their community. Also, it is ideal training for personnel in premises or public building where an Automated External Defibrillator [AED] has been installed.
Course Modules
- Basic emergency care
- Recognise the signs of a life threatening emergency
- Respons in an effective, safe and appropriate manner to a life threatening emergency, utilising basic life support skills.
- Accessing and use of an Automated External Defibrillator
- Retrieve and appropriately use, if required, an automated external defibrillator during a cardiac arrest.
- Safety and communication
- Report and Record their actions and interventions appropriately and handover to emergency medical services
Course Duration
The duration of CFR Community course is approximately 4 hours (typically).
Certification
Award of joint PHECC/RECFIRSTAID LTD Cardiac First Response Community cards/certificates to successful participants is mandatory.
Certification lapses after 2 years.
Assessment
Learners will be continually assessed throughout the course on the practical skills acquired on the course. There is a practical skills formative assessment as per PHECC assessment sheets on this course.
